Free Rock & Roll Education for Atlanta Public Schools: New Chapter Launch of Little Kids Rock Kicks off with Free Two-day Teacher Training Worksh

Atlanta, GA (PRWeb) February 9, 2007 -- Little Kids Rock (LKR), a non-profit music program that provides free instruments and instruction for public school students, today announced that it will be launching a chapter in Atlanta. The Atlanta chapter launch has been made possible through a generous grant from the Music Lives Foundation. The $70,000 grant will be used to provide 600 Atlanta-area students with the gift of music education. Students who participate in the music program will receive free music classes, guitars and cases.

The chapter launch kicks off with a free two-day workshop for all teachers who wish to bring the LKR program into their schools. Currently, 15 teachers from 11 schools are scheduled to participate. Teachers who complete the February 9th through 10th training workshop may begin leading classes in March 2007, just in time for National Music in our Schools Month. *The workshop will take place at the Dean Rusk Building, Instructional Services Center, 433 Peeples St. SW in Atlanta, from 1:00-6:00pm on Friday and 9:00am-4:00pm on Saturday.
(Media are invited to attend the two-day workshop.)*

In addition, special guests of Little Kid Rock, Jeff Carlisi, founding member of .38 Special and founder of Camp Jam Rock 'N' Roll Summer Camp for Kids and Teens, and Derek St. Holmes, vocalist for Ted Nugent, are expected to visit the workshop to discuss music education with the teachers.

Participating Atlanta schools include: Brown Middle School, Grady High School, Jean Childs Young Middle School, Morningside Elementary, Morris Brandon Elementary School, Neighborhood Charter School, North Atlanta High School, Parkside Elementary, Sutton Middle School, Sylvan Hills Middle School and Therrell High School.

Little Kids Rock teaches kids how to play pop, rock, funk, blues, rap and hip-hop music. LKR students not only perform, but they also compose and record their own music. They have released four full-length CDs as well as music videos featuring student-written originals. To date, the Little Kids Rock program has served more than 7,000 students in California, Louisiana, New York, New Jersey and Tennessee. Supporters of the program include Paul Simon, B.B. King and Bonnie Raitt.

ABOUT THE MUSIC LIVES FOUNDATION
The Music Lives Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit corporation formed to support projects and organizations dedicated to the study and appreciation of music, with a particular emphasis on children's education. Additional information is available on the Foundation's website: www.musiclives.org.

ABOUT LITTLE KIDS ROCK
Little Kids Rock believes that music is a critical component of first-rate education. Many elementary schools have been stripped of their music programs. These cuts have had a disproportionately large impact on children from low-income backgrounds. Little Kids Rock restores music to its rightful place in the academic lives of kids in our public schools by providing a rich music education program including instrument instruction, free instruments and trained mentors. Founded by an elementary school teacher in 1996, Little Kids Rock is now serving thousands of students in CA, LA, NY, NJ and TN. More information can be found at: www.littlekidsrock.org.

ABOUT JEFF CARLISI
Jeff Carlisi is the original guitarist and songwriter for the classic rock band .38 Special, which boasted more than five platinum albums during the 1980s and is best known for songs such as "Caught Up In You", "Back Where You Belong" and "Hold On Loosely." Today, Carlisi is helping people of all ages make their rock star dreams come true with Camp Jam Co, a consortium of innovative music-experience programs specifically created to teach teamwork and enrich lives through rock 'n' roll. Camp Jam Co programs include: Camp Jam, the rock 'n' roll summer day camp for kids and teens; Camp Jam's Rock Star Fantasy Experience, a weekend rock 'n' roll fantasy experience for adults; Camp Jam KIDZ, a summer day camp program for children; Camp Jam INC, a corporate rock 'n' roll team building experience; and Camp Jam Studios, a full-service rehearsal and concert facility.
