Despite the Dieting Craze, Men and Women Still Scream for Ice Cream: National Survey Reveals Ice Cream is No. 1 Food Dieters Refuse to
GREEN BAY, Wis. (BusinessWire EON) July 9, 2007 -- Now, with the introduction of Breyers(R) Double Churn(TM) FREE, our ice cream tastes so creamy you won't believe it's fat-free, consumers can indulge their sweet tooth without the fat, OR worrying about getting "caught" sneaking a serving of their favorite treat while on a diet!
"We know many Americans are watching their fat and caloric intake and we wanted to offer products that will satisfy their ice cream cravings, while at the same time making it easier for them to meet their nutritional and diet needs," says Brian Goldstine, Director of Marketing, Breyers. "Diet or not, summer is all about being outside, enjoying the weather with your friends and family, eating some ice cream and relaxing. Breyers Double Churn FREE is a great option for those people who don't want to miss out on their favorite treat because they are watching what they eat."
Not only are dieters sneaking ice cream from time to time, here are some other insights garnered from Unilever Ice Cream's 2007 National Ice Cream Month Survey:
-- Tired of counting calories? More than three-fourths of Americans say it is easier to balance their checkbook than it is to balance how many calories they eat a day.(b)
-- 40% of men and 33% of women say the hardest thing about being on a diet is that they have to miss out on the foods they love.
-- 28% of those surveyed say the hardest thing about being on a diet is that it's too much work counting calories and watching portion control.
-- Ice cream rules! When women were asked if they could spend 100 calories each day on any one food or drink and still be on a diet, what would that be? The number one answer was ice cream (33.6%). Number one answer for men--pizza (34.9%).
-- I scream, you scream, men and women scream for ice cream! Ice cream is the No. 1 food that both men and women said they still sneak from time to time while on a diet.
-- Nearly one in three women (27.5%) surveyed said that when eating ice cream, they think about the calories versus just enjoying the treat.
-- 94% of men and women said that they feel it's important to take time to treat/indulge themselves.
"It is important to treat ourselves so we don't feel deprived, but we also have to be careful not to overindulge," says Shannon Jackson Arnold, author of Everybody Loves Ice Cream and a Unilever Ice Cream category consultant. "With the introduction of Breyers Double Churn FREE, you can enjoy your dessert knowing that it won't weigh heavy on your waistline."
