Actress Winning Struggle Against Disease, Inspires New Foundation to Help Families
Stuart, FL (PRWEB) September 23, 2007 -- When 19-year old Linsey Godfrey of Stuart, Florida landed a movie role in June, 2006 it appeared that her acting career was ready to reach new heights. She had already won praise and fans for her performance in NBC's short-lived, but imaginative Sci-Fi series Surface.
But only two days after winning her new role, tragedy struck Linsey. She was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer that attacks the immune system. All of a sudden, Linsey was in a struggle for her life against a vicious disease. She was forced to step away from Hollywood and began chemotherapy treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.
Help for Linsey and her family came not just from the Mayo medical staff but also the community. Linsey's struggle inspired David Kossak of Jacksonville to set up a foundation to help families coping with cancer. Linsey was the first recipient of support from the Kossak Family Foundation, which included fundraising to help with medical costs.
By early 2007 Linsey had beaten lymphoma and was set to resume her career in movies and TV. She does have to get checkups every 3 months to make sure the cancer has not come back.
The talented actress is now auditioning for roles in LA and just earned a part in the TV show Cold Case. But perhaps Linsey's greatest attribute is her character and attitude which shined in the most despairing moments. According to her mother, Char Griggs, "I believe she got through her cancer because she had such an amazing attitude then and now."
For more information about the Kossak Family Foundation please contact David Kossak at 9995 Gate Parkway N., Suite 320, Jacksonville, FL 32246, phone number: 904-645-5558. According to Linsey's mother "It is a wonderful foundation, I do not know what we would have done without them."
