Coaching Raises Confidence in High Achieving Women
(PRWEB) December 18, 2007 -- Low self-confidence in high achieving business women may be improved by coaching. Recent research suggests that even though women may have proven their worth through successful business achievements, and are recognised as performers with high potential, nonetheless, they may be beset by confidence issues.
Helen Marsh-Williams of SHL Ltd and Professor Palmer of the Centre for Coaching will be presenting their work at the third annual National Coaching Psychology Conference to be held at City University London, on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 December 2007, organised by the British Psychological Society's Special Group in Coaching Psychology.
The research indicates that those women with lower levels of self-confidence demonstrate certain tendencies that are likely to exacerbate the problem. They tend to dismiss their achievements, and label themselves as fraudulent or incompetent. They are also likely to be highly anxious and competitive individuals.
Those traits associated with low self-confidence may be tackled successfully by coaching. "Our study indicates that these high achieving women may be helped to see things differently. By raising awareness of self-confidence and its associated characteristics, coaching is a powerful intervention that can increase confidence levels," says Marsh-Williams, a Chartered Occupational Psychologist with considerable experience in management development and leadership.
"Low self-confidence is a potential risk to these women and their achievements. We suggest that coaching should be an integral part of leadership development programmes, to ensure high potential is nurtured successfully and talent management sees a return on investment," says Professor Palmer, a highly experienced coaching psychologist.
