Local Computer Repair Service Needs Your Help to Donate Computers to Those Recovering from Mental Illness.

(PRWEB) December 29, 2004 -- Doug was mis-diagnosed with Manic Depression known now as Bipolar Disorder over 15 years ago when a failed suicide attempt landed him in a mental hospital; he spent the better part of ten years taking medicine after medicine and being thrown straight into the mental health system. To quote Wood I have no regrets, it is what made me who I am today and I am a better person for it, and I also would never have met so many wonderful people that sometimes go unnoticed in todays world

We have an urgent need for your old computer parts, says Wood. We plan to build as many systems as we can and get them into the homes of persons recovering from mental illness, these people are usually on a fixed income from social security are unable to afford a computer and are very isolated. Computers can assist them in reaching out in so many different ways. People often have computer skills they learned before they became sick. The computer helps by allowing the use of email - e.g. for job searching or to communicate family and friends&to read and learn about there specific medications and treatments.

This will all be volunteer and no money will be made by DIY, PC-Workbench, we plan to simply give the computers away once they are done, we will be using the Mandrake Linux operating system (very comparable to the way Microsofts windows works when installed and configured properly and it is free to install on computers).
