BREATHE AGAIN Launched – More Than a Magazine for Women

Norfolk, VA (PRWEB) August 30, 2006 -- Breathe Again, an electronic magazine for women, is the culmination of a yearlong process of introspection, self-evaluation and determination. Founded by Norfolk resident Nicole Cleveland as a response to personal events in her own life, the magazine is intended to serve as a forum for women in every stage of crisis – to inspire, encourage and motivate them to overcome events by sharing their real life obstacles and triumphs – and to serve as a support mechanism for other women in crisis. “Women always seem to be able to relate to each other,” says Cleveland, “whether they’re fast food workers or professionals.”

Breathe Again is geared toward women of all shapes, sizes and colors – mothers, daughters, both single and married women from all walks of life. Although Cleveland, a 34-year-old African American, believes the main audience is faith based women, “it’s not exclusive to any one group,” she emphasizes. “You just need to be a woman to benefit from Breathe Again.”

In addition, Breathe Again offers quarterly events, not just for women in crisis, but also for those who are experiencing the stress of daily life, whether from a dead-end job or overwhelming family demands. Cleveland says, “We have already had two successful events. We make sure they’re affordable, and that they can be marketed to all income levels. They’re for women who come together for the same reason - to snatch some ‘me time.’” Recognizing that many women live from paycheck to paycheck, Cleveland offers payment options for women who can’t come up with the event fee all at once.

The first Breathe Again event, a mini spa, was held in March of this year. A midday lunch cruise aboard the Virginia’s Jewel, was held in July. The next event, an expanded spa day, is planned for October. For each participant in Breathe Again events, the magazine will donate $1 to a local organization that helps women. The October event will benefit the Norfolk YWCA on Colley Avenue.

Another aspect of Breathe Again is the Friendz Network. For a yearly fee of $20, women receive a free Breathe Again T-shirt, discounts and special seating at events, entry into monthly drawings and contests – and have their name posted on the Breathe Again website. Business owners are given discounts on advertising.

Cleveland recently reconciled with the husband who abandoned the family four days after the birth of their third child. During their separation, Cleveland says, she learned how women deal with personal tragedy, while still having to function in the world. “I found that women are hurting and wearing masks to cover up hurt and disappointment. I know, because I did it for eight months,” she says. “I’m now on a mission to encourage, inspire and motivate women. By posting real life stories of women overcoming obstacles – not to exploit the women but to highlight the victory. To show other woman that they too can make it, that they can survive, that they can Breathe Again.”

Cleveland is available for interviews, and encourages women to share their stories to help one another.
