Web Site Available With Thurston Regional Justice Center Proposal Information

Olympia, WA (PRWEB) March 11, 2004 -- The Citizens for a Responsible Jail Solution announce the availability of a web site with information about the proposed Thurston County Regional Justice Center.

The web site is located at: www.thurstonjustice.org. The web site contains information about the alternatives considered and supported by the proposed new facility and the adaptability of the facility to the future needs of the community. A Fact Sheet and Frequently Asked Questions section are available with specific answers to common questions.

Thurston County and its municipalities are proposing to construct a regional criminal justice center that would include 640 beds and four non-jury courtrooms to meet both county and city criminal justice needs. The current jail and courthouse were built over twenty-five years ago to serve a much smaller population. The existing jail is over-crowded and unable to house municipal misdemeanants locally. The proposal for a new justice center was developed after three years of intensive study by the County and the cities of Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, Yelm, Tenino and Rainier. The result has been an unprecedented inter-governmental and citizen collaboration supporting the development of a responsible Thurston Justice Center proposal.
