Santa Sworn In As Drug Free Marshal at Clearwater Winter Wonderland

Clearwater, FL (PRWEB) December 6, 2006 -- Santa's naughty list now officially includes any kids that take or promote drug use. On December 1st, 2006 Santa Claus was officially sworn in as a "Drug Free Marshal" along with hundreds of other parents and children at the 13th annual Winter Wonderland in Clearwater. Joe Brady, former lieutenant of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and past president of Fraternal Order of Police, did the honors.

"Drug Free Marshals" (www.drugfreemarshals.org) is a youth drug-education and prevention program created in 1993 by the Church of Scientology International (www.scientology.org).

Santa and the other children, parents and officials who have become Drug Free Marshals, pledge to lead the way by:
1. Living a drug-free life.
2. Showing my friends that a drug-free life is more fun.
3. Helping my fellow Drug-Free Marshals.
4. Learning more about how drugs really harm people.
5. Telling people the truth about the harmful effects of drugs.
6. Helping my family and friends be drug-free.
7. Setting a good example to all children by leading the way to a Drug-Free USA.

The "Drug Free Marshals" aren't only here in Clearwater. Since it's inception, the campaign has rapidly spread internationally, with an excess of 3.1 million people sworn in as Drug-Free Marshals in cities and towns throughout the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia and Europe.

Following the swearing-in, Lt. Brady, Assistant City Manager for Economic Development; Rod Irwin, Chairman of the Downtown Development Board; David Allbritton, a representative from the Homeless Emergency Project of Everybody's Tabernacle, the charity benefiting from Winter Wonderland proceeds; Clare Young, Leadership Pinellas Graduate; Brian St. Arnold and his children; Chairwoman of the Clearwater Community Volunteers who constructed and run Winter Wonderland, Joanie Sigal; and the Community Affairs Director of the Church of Scientology, Mary Story, joined Santa in turning on the 100,000 lights of Winter Wonderland.

Santa and his other "Drug Free Marshals" will be helping to spread the holiday cheer and helping to lead the way to a drug-free USA at the Winter Wonderland in Clearwater. Winter Wonderland, a free, open to all, annual tradition since 1993, is a complete Swiss Alpine-style Christmas village with over 90 live pine trees and more than 100,000 lights adorning the trees and the Christmas cottages.
